What Is Neurofeedback?
4 min readNeurofeedback is a form of biofeedback that uses real-time EEG to show a person aspects of their brain activity and help them learn to influence those patterns. Sensors on the scalp feed into software that converts brain signals into visual or auditory feedback the trainee responds to during guided sessions.
Clinics use neurofeedback for assessment and training protocols in neurology and behavioral health settings, often as a complementary service alongside traditional neurodiagnostic testing. Sessions are non-invasive and typically scheduled as a series of supervised visits.
Effective neurofeedback depends on clean EEG acquisition, stable software protocols, and trained operators who can set goals, monitor progress, and keep electrodes and skin preparation consistent from visit to visit.
