Understanding Medical Equipment Specifications
4 min readMedical equipment spec sheets can be dense, but a few categories matter most for comparison: measurement parameters and accuracy, connectivity and data output, power requirements, and physical dimensions relative to your available space.
Accuracy and range specifications tell you what the device can reliably measure and within what limits, important for clinical decision-making, but easy to overlook when comparing products mainly on visual design or brand reputation.
Connectivity specs indicate whether a device can integrate with your existing systems, such as a hospital information system, central monitoring network, or electronic medical records, a feature that's easy to underestimate until you're trying to retrofit it later.
When specifications are unclear or use unfamiliar terminology, ask your supplier to walk through them in the context of your specific clinical use case. A reputable distributor should be able to explain not just what a number means, but why it matters for your facility.
