General wards typically require basic parameters like SpO2, heart rate, and non-invasive blood pressure, while ICUs and operating rooms often need multi-parameter monitors covering invasive pressures, capnography, and advanced arrhythmia detection.
If you're deploying multiple monitors, networking matters. Central monitoring stations let nursing staff observe several beds from a single screen, which is especially valuable in critical care, but this requires monitors and infrastructure designed to work together, not just individually capable units.
Pay close attention to alarm management. Overly sensitive default alarm settings contribute to alarm fatigue among staff, so look for monitors with configurable alarm thresholds and clear escalation between different alert priorities.
As with any critical care equipment, factor in the availability of local service, loaner units during repairs, and staff training, since patient monitors are used continuously and downtime directly affects your ability to observe patients safely.
